About the author
Bas de Veer
Bas de Veer has worked with REDCap since 2012 and is REDCap Senior Program Manager at Yale University. Before Yale he managed REDCap at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and before that he spent eleven years at UW Medicine in Seattle, starting as a REDCap administrator and leaving as Assistant Director of Research IT.
At UW he grew the REDCap user base from about 400 users to more than 10,000, built and ran its training curriculum, consulted on more than a thousand research projects, and organized the annual REDCap Conference when UW Medicine hosted it, for more than 450 attendees. At Wake Forest he co-developed a library of free online REDCap courses, from piping and action tags to data exports and pre-screening.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, he holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in medical informatics from the University of Amsterdam. He came to research informatics through clinical data management, managing data entry for a dementia prevention study at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, and wrote his master’s thesis at UW Medicine as an exchange student. Back in the Netherlands he trained clinicians on hospital software before joining UW Medicine in 2012.
He has attended numerous REDCap Conferences, has served on REDCap Consortium committees, and maintains a public REDCap knowledge base. He lives in Seattle, Washington, with his wife, their kids, and a cat.
